World Ameteur Golf Championship will be held at Turkey

Turkey won the bid to host the high-profile event on Oct. 13 ahead of Italy and Austria gaining the votes of 76 countries out of a possible 92. The victory was the first attempt by the country to host the event and a happy ending for the Turkish Golf Federation or the TGF the youngest member of the International Golf Federation or the IGF which has a total of 110 member nations. The games will be played at the Antalya Cornelia Golf Club Gloria Golf Club and Antalya Golf Club courses.

Belek has everything to host such an event” Ahmet Ağaoğlu president of the TGF told the Turkish Daily News. “All we had to do was present Belek to other members of the IGF and the result shows that we did a good job.” Nasut Akosman a board member of the TGF also hailed the decision.

“The year 2012 is Europe´s championship year” said Akosman. “That gave Turkey a strategic part of the continent the chance to participate in the voting. We believe that the 2012 Championship will definitely play a crucial role in the international publicity of Antalya as well as of Turkey.”

Voted the best golf destination in Europe for 2008 Belek is highly recognized within the world golf market which is worth 3 billion euros. Highlighting that in selecting a favorable place for golf tournaments there are criteria such as climate the distance between the golf course and the hotel and places of tourism value Akosman also noted that Belek is in a favorable district as it offers many courses each with different features all in one an important criterion for golf fans.
